Mitigating rainfall inconveniences

The storm drainage project is located in the Municipality of the City of Posadas, Capital of the Province of Misiones, and contemplates in a first stage the drainage of the West Branch of the Itá Stream basin.

Urban development, accompanied by changes in land use and the waterproofing of permeable roofs, have increased the amount of excess rainfall that runs off the surface of the basin. In this situation, even in the case of low intensity rainfall, the existing drainage network's catchment and conveyance works are not sufficient to prevent flooding and conflicts at various points in the basin.

The "Sanitation of the West Branch of the Ita Creek" project includes the construction of a main drainage collector for the existing storm drainage network. From a general point of view, the main collector is developed in a south-north (S-N) direction and then diverts in a northeast direction along streets and avenues until it discharges next to the current culvert of the Arroyo Itá.

The basin to be cleaned covers an area of more than 160,000 hectares.
